One of my great experiences was the zebra mussels, this little clam when she dies it turn white creating beautiful site comparing to mountain of snow a winter land under water. Also one of the great times diving in the river, you just let the current take you and you be flying like a superman. Scuba gloves are recommended because of the dead zebra mussels.
